California girls, whose hip and funky fashion trends have adapted the rugged cotton twill textile, denim, as a constant element of style, would be most pleased with Spring 2011’s Collections as numerous renowned designers all over the globe incorporated this diagonally-ribbed fabric into their portfolio. A strong showing of a more lightweight material quite similar to denim, chambray, and the Americana staple, the blue jeans, were evident in the spring runways, with a twist to the classics, transforming it into tailored suits, tunics, trenches,

dresses, and scrublike silhouettes. Blue jean babies and L.A. ladies will undoubtedly have a number of rivals exploding in the spring/summer months as high-end fashion labels are making a big splash on store shelves with their denim-loving creations.
Dolce and Gabbana
Dolce and Gabbana offered a collection inspired by a garden-full of bright and radiant flowers, yet the unmistakable attendance of soft, loose denim materials became a stand out amidst the feminine bursts of frilly skirts and bubble shorts. A high-waisted and wide-legged mid-calf trouser with a brown leather belt, and a jean jacket, flawlessly combined with the multi-hued garbs and accessories became among the collected works’ fashion favourites.
Celine
Another fashion brand influenced by ‘the blue jeans’ is Celine which showcased her spring collection with an embrace of the artisanal, in mind; striking hand-woven textiles matched with a back-to-fabrics mentality with the utilization of quilts, raw canvas, and of

course, denim. Several full-chambray garbs which boasted of clean, linear patterns appeared on the catwalks of Celine, paying homage to this latest fashion trend.
Stella McCartney
A denim section of tunics, jackets, and skirts amidst a selection of lengthy suits and dresses ultimately drew to a close Stella McCartney’s spring showing, revolutionizing the classic jean fabrics into masterpieces with her signature strong tailoring in attendance. In a similar light, Thakoon also came up with a tailored denim piece with a flirty twist as bra exposures came to play in this smart spring line-up.
Kate Spade
Fashion experts did not fail to incorporate denim into fashion accessories such as is the case with Kate Spade’s indigo pointed ballet flats with an adorable little satin bow. Handbags crafted with denim also came in varying spring silhouettes such as the long strap shoulder bag, cross-body mini bags, daytime clutches, and the continuing trend of the Lady Bag.

Christian Louboutin fashioned a denim handbag trimmed with tan leather and additional rocker chic studs for a more edgy look; while Prada produced a number of denim bags, a tote which featured two top handles and a detachable strap, receiving rave reviews.
As the Americana staple goes back to business, the institutional brand of denim jeans that continue to capture the hearts of many, Levi Strauss & Co., has recently held a showroom unveiling in Soho. This denim-expert brand allowed ‘the blue jeans’ to bask in the spotlight as Men’s and Women’s Spring Collection were given a preview, which exuded a “California meets downtown NYC” feel, sure to be a hit among fashion forward individuals.
