Around the globe, the conflict between occupation and family time is a major issue. As one resource says, ‘globalization, new technology, and a high pressure, 24/7 economy have blurred the traditional line between work and family. Millions of us are over-worked, over-scheduled, exhausted for the reason that we’re just plain stressed out. Long and lopsided working hours are linked with bad health, anxious relationships, poor parenting and divorce. Overwork is deadly!

How about you? Are you overworked and over-stressed?  Are you yearning for a better balanced life with yourself, work and family? If so, how then can you find it? How can you care for these important areas of life in a balanced way? Let’s take into account the following helpful suggestions:

Do not allow your career be your obsession

Get time for work, but make time for yourself. Indeed, working extensive hours without proper rest or pastime can rob you of many joys in life.  It can also lead to serious health problems. Chronic and long work hours have been associated with many stress-related disorders. Make certain to take control of your job before it will possess you.

Prioritize self and family

Obviously, family and self should be the top priorities in life and not your job. You should work in order to live and not live to work. Caught between two difficult situations, don’t take time to think twice. Choose family over your job. Often, regrets and chaos happen for not giving preferences for life’s most important things—self and family.

Work with rest and leisure

Is man wrong to work hard to provide for himself and his family? Not at all! It becomes a problem when he focuses too much on work and forgets to have fun. Balance is vital. Be good to your mental, physical, and emotional health by taking time to blow off some steam by first indulging in something you love such as your favorite past time activity, then follow-up with rest and sleep. Doing so will definitely help you care for your personal needs especially your health.

Work enough for the family

To date, many families are under-connected and over-scheduled. Work gets most of their energy and the children get what’s left. We have to work hard to provide for the family; however, we must not sacrifice the very needs of the family. If both parents work and are fed up with the increasing pressure of job, re-assess your priorities and start making changes. One may need to give up the job to attend the daily needs of the family and home. Things will be much better and in their proper places; thus, reducing most of your stress.

Live a simple life

People have taken all their output gains in the figure of more money, more things, and none of them in the structure of more time. We as a society tend to prefer money over time, however you don’t need to receive as much income as you may think in order to live well and be happy. A simple, joyful life is far more fulfilling than making a lot in earnings.  To live simple means less material possessions, less work but more time to enjoy the grander things in life. Reduce the workload significantly by living a more simple life.

Living a satisfying, meaningful life obviously involves balance. Be rest assure, that balancing work with recreation, family and self will result in rich rewards. Trade in that extra work pressure for a healthy, joyful, balanced life!
